Two Days in Heaven (er, I mean Dry Tortugas)

The Dry Tortugas is the last of the Florida Keys and is approximately 50 miles west of Key West. It is a national park and includes the infamous Fort Jefferson (where Doctor Mudd served his sentence for setting the leg of John Wilkes Booth after Booth assassinated President Lincoln). Very few people visit because you can only get their by boat or by charter plane/boat. That’s what makes it so special.

Crystal clear water, bountiful bird and marine life, sugar white sand beaches. It is truly the jewel of the Florida Keys, yet most people have never heard of it — and let’s keep it that way! We spent two wonderful days in the anchorage, enjoying the peace and tranquility, but now it is time to go.

We’ll leave tonight around sunset and head for Key West. I prefer to make the trip from DT to KW over night so that I don’t have to burn a vacation day getting to Key West.
